Unacademy’s co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Hemesh Singh, recently made a significant announcement through a post on X, previously known as Twitter. Effective from June 8, Singh will be transitioning from his pivotal executive role to that of an advisor within the company. This move marks a new chapter in Singh’s professional journey, following an impressive tenure of nearly a decade at Unacademy, which he launched alongside co-founders Gaurav Munjal and Roman Saini.
In his announcement, Singh took the opportunity to reflect on the years spent building Unacademy from the ground up. “After almost a decade of commitment and growth with Unacademy, alongside my co-founders Gaurav Munjal and Roman Saini, I am moving into an Advisory role,” Singh shared. He expressed deep gratitude for the chance to contribute to Unacademy’s mission and recognized the company’s significant impact on making test preparation more accessible and effective.
Singh specifically thanked Gaurav Munjal for the support and partnership that spanned over their years of collaboration, highlighting the strength of their teamwork in propelling Unacademy to its current success.
Responding to Singh’s announcement, Unacademy’s CEO, Gaurav Munjal, reminisced about the origins of their collaboration. “Hemesh and I embarked on this journey 11 years ago, starting with Flatchat. It’s been an extraordinary journey, and having you as a co-founder has been invaluable. Unacademy will greatly feel your absence,” Munjal expressed on X, acknowledging the lasting legacy Singh has imprinted on the company.
Established in 2015, Unacademy was founded by Munjal, Saini, and Singh, quickly evolving into one of India’s premier edtech platforms. The news of Singh’s role change within Unacademy has not only spotlighted the end of an era but also the start of a new advisory dimension where Singh’s insights and experiences will continue to guide and shape the future direction of Unacademy.
This transition represents not just a change in leadership dynamics but underscores the enduring impact of founding members, even as they adopt different roles within the company. As Unacademy continues to navigate the competitive edtech landscape, Singh’s strategic shift to an advisor role ensures that his expertise will remain a guiding force for the company’s technological and educational initiatives.
